Translating

“If I am selling to you, I speak your language. If I am buying, dann müssen Sie Deutsch sprechen.“
Willy Brandt

“Translation is the consolation you get for not knowing the source language.”
Josif Trajkoski

Whenever possible, I favour reading books and other material in their original language. A translation, no matter how good, can seldom wholly convey the juices and richness of the original text. However, when it comes to more functional texts (letters, emails, website content), a good translator can make or break the original sender’s message. I have more than 12 years of experience translating various texts from English, French, Italian and Slovenian into my mother tongue, Romanian. Depending on the specialisation of the texts, various combinations between these languages are also possible. For a concrete quote, please contact me here.

If you would like to be able to read your favourite author in their original language (English, French, Italian, Slovenian or Romanian), a language course would come in handy – see Language courses.

“I’m trying to translate what my cat says and put it in a book, but how many homonyms are there for meow?”
Jarod Kintz, The Days of Yay are Here! Wake Me Up When They're Over.

“It is the task of the translator to release in his own language that pure language that is under the spell of another, to liberate the language imprisoned in a work in his re-creation of that work.”
Walter Benjamin, Illuminations: Essays and Reflections
